Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 are among the most fascinating and memorable characters you’ll meet on your journey. The story involves many different captivating personalities, classes, and races, but these Dark Elves who dwell deep within the Underdark stand out thanks to their rich lore and complex stories.
Let’s just say that Drow have some interesting things going on down there, such as a large portion of the population being brainwashed into worshiping a Spider Goddess…but hey, that’s not what we’re here to talk about! Instead, we’ve chosen to take a look at which Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 stand out as the most memorable, lovable, or downright fascinating individuals.
Without further ado, here are the 8 best Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Dhourn

Dhourn is just an interesting (if not slightly petty) little guy who you may or may not have interacted with, depending on your actions and decisions whilst exploring the Underdark. When encountering the Petrified Drow scattered around the abandoned Selunite Output, the Spectator that can be encountered is able to un-Petrify Dhourn and the other Drow to then fight alongside it – but players can break this trance by causing him to take damage.
Dhourn actually comes in quite useful, as he can give you some very important items and information regarding Grymforge and the other quests in that area. Essentially, he and his buddies were searching for Grymforge until they discovered new information and all turned on one another in greed.
Dhourn and one of the two friends basically planned to ambush one another, which resulted in Dhourn and his mercenaries being Petrified by his pal’s ol’ Spectator. I mean, they’re both pretty terrible friends as well as horrible assassins….pick a struggle, my dudes! While he’s most definitely not a great person, this has made him and his whole encounter quite memorable – just enough to warrant himself a spot on this list of best Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Tamara

Tamara is a merchant at Felogyr’s Fireworks in Baldur’s Gate Lower City, who also doubles as a watchful eye, keeping others from looking too closely into Felogyr’s Fireworks’ business. Players will be most familiar with her from their time spent in the Investigate the Suspicious Toys quest.
Sure, at first, she just seems like any other basic NPC in the game. Minimal story, a line of dialogue here or there, and/or a minor role tied into one of the many quests. However, there are some very interesting, fun facts about Tamara that make her stand out from your average Drow NPC.
Most significantly, unlike every other Drow in the game, she does not have access to Faerie Fire, which is a natural Racial Trait for that species. Furthermore, she does not have any other key Drow features, and instead her stats look more similar to those of a Human. As she is a member of the Cult of Bane, this prompts a question – has Tamara been in disguise this whole time? Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me. We all know how shady those folks are.
Viconia DeVir

Viconia DeVir has more than earned her spot on this list, and for good reason. Forget about the best Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3; Viconia here originates as a companion back in both the original Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II. Though on top of this, she has even returned as an NPC for BG3 that can be encountered in Act 3.
As it turns out, Viconia here has a direct link to Shadowheart’s storyline. She’s responsible for kidnapping her at a young age from her Selunite parents and raising her as a Cleric of Shar. She’s even the one who tasked her with retrieving the Mysterious Artifact. Huh, well, the more you know. It was definitely a fun link between the games – and there’s even the possibility to see Jaheira and Minsc’s reactions to running into her again, depending on who you have in your party at the time.
Sorn Orlith

Sorn Orlith is one of the two notable Drown twins that you can meet and interact with at Sharess’ Caress. Pretty much everyone went nuts over this guy when they started reaching Act 3 for the very first time. Most people would agree that although they don’t really play a huge part, Sorn (and Nym) are two of the best Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3.
This is laregely due to the humorous sexual scenes and character interactions that can be initiated with your Tav and Sorn, or even Sorn and Nym together – or even more Companions, but, well, yeah. There are a lot of options. Many of them are worth a good laugh. Honestly, there’s nothing to hate about the Drow twins; they’re just a fun (and undoubtedly memorable) NPC encounter that no player will forget!
Nym Orlith

The second half of the Orlith twins, and definitely one of the warmest and friendliest Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, Nym can be found inside Sharesses’ Caress alongside her brother, Sorn.
According to Nym, the two of them left the Underdark due to the bad treatment of men by the Lolth-Sworn Drow and instead relocated to the surface. Hey, we love a queen who will stand up against what she believes is wrong and remain loyal to her brother. Plus, I absolutely love it when characters have fun hair color combinations or styles, so I’m absolutely living for her little pastel pink highlights. Honestly, all Drow should make that a fashion trend, starting with Sorn!
True Soul Nere

How could we forget about good ol’ True Soul Nere? Well, we couldn’t. Obviously. He’s kinda one of the first few assholes you have to take care of, most of the time. This guy spends most of his time worshipping the Absolute and running around enslaving Deep Gnomes. Uggggghhhh! Yeah, he’s the worst.
Thankfully, no matter what route you take, this guy doesn’t have a great road to follow. On one hand, you have the option of defeating him, removing his head, and handing that over as part of a fun little quest. On the other hand, if Nere walks free from Grymforge for whatever reason, players can expect to encounter him in Act 2 as an undead servant to Balthazar. I mean, hey, at least he provides an opportunity to snag a Moon Lantern. It’s about all he’s good for.
(In all honesty, though, Nere would have made a great companion locked to evil runs, if additional options had been considered)
Araj Oblodra

Perhaps the most intriguing and mysterious Drow on this list, Araj Oblodra, is certainly an enigma, to say the least. Players can first meet this alchemist as a Trader in Moonrise Towers, where she offers to create potions from samples of their blood. A little creepy, sure, sure, but she’s probably mostly harmless. Right?…Right?
Ehh…no, not really. Turns out Araj is the last living daughter of house Oblodra, a house destroyed by rivals for their association with Mind Flayers. And of course, she’s out to restore glory to her house once again. How does she plan to do so?… Well, she has some very interesting secrets, but let’s just say that genocide, torture, and human experimentation aren’t off the table. Yeah, Araj is just a little bit crazy…but we love her for it anyway. Plus, the way that she tied more lore of the Underdark and Drow houses into the story was very interesting – one my favorite Drow characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, without a doubt!
Minthara

Last but certainly not least, we have our beloved Minthara. As one of the possible companions, players without a doubt have grown to love her as one of their favorite characters in the game. Dare I say, she also has a much more intriguing personality and interesting story than some of the other companions, too (*cough* WYLL *cough*), which makes me wish she had been fleshed out with more dialogue, quests, and interactions after you recruit her.
Minthara, honestly, is just a great character. At first, she seems like some big, bad boss, then once you learn that she was ultimately being manipulated and controlled by her environment, you start to see more depth to her character. Of course, this comes both in the form of moments of vulnerability, as well as a collection of several really questionable hot takes that come out of left field every now and again.
Look, she’s silly, and we love her. You never know what she’s going to say. Sometimes it can be incredibly deep, such as her “Loving another is not soft, wizard. It is one of the hardest things a person can do”. Or, it can be something totally out there, such as “Ah, yes, the elderly could be used for nutrition, but the young could be made into a labor force.” – with her, it’s all part of the fun.
