6 Best Weapons For Fire Builds in Baldur’s Gate 3

Part of the fun in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the sheer versatility of different builds that can be crafted during each playthrough. Thanks to the different Spells, Races, Classes, Subclasses, Feats, Magical Items, and more, the possibilities are nearly endless. This makes themed builds quite a common route for players to try out, taking a focus on a character concept based on different elements, magical forces, or aesthetics.

Elemental builds are among some of the most fun and interesting builds to run, as there are so many different items that work in these progressions. Plenty of items in BG3 involve bonus effects, Spells/Cantrips, and status effects that synergize nicely with fire damage – and weapons are no exception. To help you consider what options will work best for your fire-themed Tav or companion respec, here are the 5 best weapons for fire builds in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Everburn Blade

Look, we all knew that this one was a contender without a doubt. Not only is the Everburn Blade one of best weapons for fire builds in Baldur’s gate 3, but it is also one of the strongest early-game Greatswords in general.

In theory, it is just a regular ol’ Greatsword that also deals +1d4 Fire damage on every hit. However, that is not to be underestimated! That extra +1d4 can come in extremely clutch during combat, making it a nice little bonus for any melee STR weapon user, such as your Barbarians, Fighters, Paladins, or even Clerics, depending on your build.

Eventually, you can always swap it out for a more powerful fire weapon down the road, but there’s no denying that it would be the perfect thematic weapon for a fire-inspired build or character. Plus, the sword just looks completely badass, flickering flames as you run around the world of Faerun.

Firestoker

FirestokerCrossbowBurned Alive – deal an additional 1d6 Fire damage to Burning targetsWithin the opulent chest in the dorm room with Hellsboars at Grymforge.

If you want to make a fire-based build but also incorporate some ranged gameplay, or perhaps even go all-out with a sniper setup, then the Firestoker may be exactly what you need. While this weapon doesn’t inflict the Burning status effect itself, it does deal a lovely little bonus d6 of Fire damage to any target that is already Burning.

These d6 will certainly add value each round if you’re also able to consistently apply Burning to targets through other means. Heck, if it comes down to it, you can even just have other party members chuck Grease bottles within large sections of enemies. Then, it can be lit aflame with either a Fire Spell or Fire Arrow, causing enemies inside to become Burning. Then, simply go full DPS with multiple ranged attacks to clean them up. Sharpshooter, Sneak Attack, Action Surge – there’s a lot of fun potential to be had.

Exterminator’s Axe

Weapon NameWeapon TypeDescription / EffectsWhere to Find
Exterminator’s AxeGreataxeScourge of Pests – deal an additional 1d8 Fire damage to Plants, Myconids, and Small Creatures.Loot from Gekh Coal at the Underdark’s Decrepit Village

This Fire damage-inflicting weapon is a little more situational than other entries on this list, largely due to the Scourge of Pests’ magical property. This bonus effect deals an extra 1d8 Fire damage – great! But, it only deals that damage to Myconids, Plants, and Small Creatures…not so great.

Despite this, there is one time where the Exterimator’s Axe will thrive compared to the remainder of the story – during the quests/story arc of the Underdark. This is because the Myconids can be found in this location, as well as the likes of Deep Gnomes, who fit the Small Creature category. If you’re taking a more evil route for your playthrough, then the Exterminator’s Axe will surely come in handy during this bloodshed.

And if you’re not? Eh, what’s to keep you from saving it and using it to slice and dice a Goblin straggler or two further down the track? Is this one of the best weapons for fire builds in Baldur’s Gate 3? Totally! At least, to a certain degree. Is it one of the best Axe weapons in general? Well…nope, not really. We’re not gonna talk about that, though!

Kurwin’s Cauteriser

Kurwin’s CauteriserScimitarCauteriser – deal an additional +1d6 Fire damage.
On a hit, the target starts Burning unless it survives a CON saving throw.
Loot from Bugthimble at Lower City Graveyard

Now we have a sweet, sweet Fire Scimitar to add to the mix! Kurwin’s Cauteriser is a pretty solid melee weapon for any Class that utilizes DEX, such as a Rogue, Ranger, Bard, or even Warlock (depending on your build, of course). If any of them have a knack for burning things, they’re in luck.

The extra +1d6 Fire damage is pretty damn satisfying, to say the least. And then, on top of this, you also have the chance to inflict Burning with every successful hit you land. Because of this, there is also some synergy with the Firestoker Crossbow, so players can even use them as their primary melee and ranged weapon in some builds.

On their own we’d consider them both some of the best weapons for fire builds in Baldur’s Gate 3. But together in the same loadout? That’s almost villainous, in a good, impressive, sort of way.

If you are looking to weild both weapons, you’d ideally want to be a sneaky Multiclass such as a Gloomstalker Assassin. This would allow you to lead with an attack with Kurwin’s Cauteriser first to potentially proc Burning, as well as apply Sneak Attack. Then, you can use your Rogue Action to dash out of melee and set up your ranged positioning for Firestoker to ensure that extra damage is factored in.

Hellfire Greataxe

+ 1d6 Fire damage
Thermodynamo – Whenever you deal damage with this weapon, you gain 2 turns of Heat
Inside the gilded chest in the “Illusion” section at Sorcerous Vault

The Hellfire Greataxe is perfectly suited for the endgame of any character inspired by the element of fire. Not only does it naturally deal a bonus +1d6 Fire damage with each attack, but whenever you successfully deal damage with the Hellfire Greataxe, you will automatically gain 2 turns of Heat.

Heat is a very interesting mechanic. On each turn, you will take 1d4 Fire damage, but you do gain the ability to use Heat Convergence. This ability enables you to consume remaining turns of Heat to deal extra Fire damage on the next attack or Spell.

Pretty much, if you’re attacking consistently to proc Heat each turn, you can then stockpile them briefly before toggling Heat Convergence, adding 1 bonus Fire damage to your next attack for every remaining turn of Heat you had left. Keep that and the bonus +1d6 Fire damage in mind, and you will soon find you have a very fun little damage-dealing approach going. There’s no argument against this axe is considered one of the best weapons for fire builds in Baldur’s Gate 3!

Flame Blade

Weapon NameWeapon TypeDescription / EffectsWhere to Find
Flame BladeScimitar3d6 Fire damageSummon via the Flame Blade Spell

Flame Blade is a little different from others on this list, as you cannot simply find or purchase it and then equip it to your character. Instead, Flame Blade can only be conjured via a Spell of the same name. This means that only limited builds and Classes will have access to it as an option – but that doesn’t make it any less viable as one of the best weapons for fire builds in Baldur’s Gate 3!

In fact, Flame Blade is a brilliant choice for any melee half-caster or build that involves casting Spells/Cantrips through your weapon. Take the Booming Blade Spell, for example; it’s pretty much bread and butter for a lot of Rogue, Hexblade Warlock, or Swords Bard builds.

Essentially, you can summon your Flame Blade at camp or prior to a fight, have it equipped as your primary weapon, and then enter combat. You’ll then be able to utilize Sneak Attack, Booming Blade, Flourish, or any other ability that works in a similar way, dealing the damage from these effects plus your 3d6 Fire damage on any successful hit with the Flame Blade. Considering you unlock Flame Blade capabilities fairly early on in most builds, it can be a combat option that is very much worth looking into, particularly if you’re going for those fire aesthetics and character themes.
