Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has revealed the latest distribution event, which gives players around the world a rare chance to add a free shiny Legendary to their collection. From September 26th, 2025, through October 16th, 2025, players will be able to obtain either a shiny Koraidon in Pokemon Violet or a shiny Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet via serial code distribution.
Free Shiny Koraidon / Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is celebrating the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A with the inclusion of a new event. The event, which was first confirmed for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players in Japan, enables fans to visit various game stores and show their Nintendo Switch home menu to employees. Menu screens featuring a Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet game will receive a code to redeem one of these shinies for free in-game.
However, since the first announcement, it has also been revealed that the event will be ongoing in other countries around the world. Fans in the US can visit Gamestop stores to receive their code, while fans in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can visit EB Games to claim theirs.
Upon redeeming their code, players will receive a shiny variant of the box art Legendary of the opposing game. In other words, Violet players will receive the ancient-inspired Koraidon, while Scarlet players will receive the futuristic Miraidon.
As these Pokemon are shiny-locked in-game, there is no natural way to obtain them by simply playing the game or undergoing gruelling shiny hunts. Because of this, the event opportunity is a brilliant chance for players to obtain these Legendaries in rare shiny form.
The event will only be available until October 16, 2025, when Pokemon Legends: Z-A officially releases on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. However, players who are eager to snag their shiny Koraidon or Miraidon freebie will want to get into their local store sooner rather than later, as there’s always the possibility that codes could run out.
In the case that this does happen, players may be forced to try and secure one online from people who have picked them up and not used them, or managed to gain additional copies. This may often mean trading something in exchange, or even paying for them outright, if Trainers are desperate enough. To avoid this, be sure to mark September 26th on your calendars for a quick stop to your local Gamestop (USA), EB Games (AUS./NZ/Canada), or local partnered store (Japan).
