How to Unlock Competitive Play & Climb the Ranks in Marvel Rivals

How to Unlock Ranked in Marvel Rivals

In Marvel Rivals, players must first meet a prerequisite account level before they can participate in Competitive Play. Prior to Season 2, this level restriction meant that players would need to reach at least level 10. However, from Season 2 onward, this limit was increased to level 15.

Accounts made prior to Season 2 can still participate in Competitive Play as long as they are level 10, but new accounts will need to surpass the new requirement of level 15. To level up their account, players can complete matches of general game modes such as Quick Play, Doom Match, and Play Against AI.

Once an account reaches the level requirement, players will now be able to change their Gameplay Mode to Competitive Play in the menu. By default, all accounts will start at the bottom of the ranks at Bronze III and have to work their way up.

How to Climb the Marvel Rivals Competitive Ranks

To climb, players will need to win matches, which gives them points on their progression bar to reach the next rank up. On a loss, however, players will lose some of their progression points. To rank up fast, players will need to go on a steady winning streak.

However, Marvel Rivals tends to utilize EOMM (Engagement Optimized Matchmaking), so players should also keep an eye on their win-loss. In the case that they lose a few in a row, the best option is to stop playing for a few hours at minimum and then log back in with hopes that you have swayed the matchmaking system into making you stick around by putting you in favorable team lineups.

If you’re just getting started with competitive, don’t worry about this too much until you find your footing. Instead, focus on finding which heroes you perform well with, how to adapt to counters, and which picks you can use to your advantage across each map/gameplay mode.
